Requesting a Commission

Commissioning a new work is one of the most exciting processes for me as a composer. I am open to receiving commissions for a wide variety of instrumentations, events, and interdisciplinary experiences. The following elements will be considered before beginning our collaboration. Including any of them in an initial inquiry will expedite our conversation. Though I have some flexibility, I propose these guidelines for the most mutually beneficial artistic experience.

Time Frame

Depending on my schedule and the requested project, it is wise to contact me 6-12 months before the piece is to be performed. This amount of time will vary with the potential need to secure permissions to use copyrighted text, size of ensemble, length of work, and score creation.

Fees

Commissioning fees are primarily dependent upon the length of the piece, instrumentation, and time allowed for composing. We can discuss rates that work best for your ensemble, considering funding from grants and other outside sources.

Coaching and Attendance at the Premiere

I love to be involved with performers at any stage in the creative process of presenting my work. Contact me for my availability for coaching on any aspect of the piece including a spoken introduction, text analysis, interpretation, extended techniques, or any questions you may have. Premiere performances are very exciting! Please inform me of the premiere date well in advance and I would be pleased to discuss travel arrangements.

Copyright

As a performing entity, you may request exclusive performing rights of the work for an agreed upon period of time. However, as the composer, I retain the copyright for all of my pieces.
